Reminders from the Health and Wellness Coach (HWC)

  • The NBHWC Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics establishes standards of professional practice for NBC-HWC.
  • Health and wellness coaches support clients in making lasting behavioral changes and attaining self-identified goals, integrating their vision, lifestyle, well-being, and health while also incorporating advice from their medical professionals.
  • Coaching does not replace professional medical advice or treatment. If the coach identifies concerning signs of illness, they will refer you to a medical provider.
  • Coaches refrain from suggesting supplements, designing meal plans, or providing nutritional consultations. Additionally, they do not interpret medical information, diagnose conditions, or prescribe or adjust medications or treatments. Coaches often collaborate with medical professionals as part of their care team to assist clients in integrating recommendations made by these professionals.
  • The coach may assist in executing treatment plans when operating under the supervision of a licensed medical or allied health professional, supporting the implementation of their treatment strategies.
  • Health and wellness coaches may provide evidence-based resources from nationally recognized sources with expertise in relevant areas.
  • Benefits from health coaching sessions may vary individually, even among clients with similar health goals and conditions.
  • Here, we discuss health coaching, mindfulness, and Qigong therapy for your consultation. Your practitioner will let you know if they plan to explore other areas beyond this boundary.

The client understands and agrees to the following:

  • I agree to consult my medical and/or mental health provider for any health concerns.
  • I will inform my medical or mental health provider about my participation in health coaching and discuss any strategies created with my coach, considering my current health needs.
  • My health coach relies on accurate information, including medical diagnoses and medications, to provide effective coaching.
  • I understand that health coaching involves collaborative goal-setting, and I am responsible for implementing the agreed-upon strategies.
  • The advice provided is individualized and may not be suitable for others.
  • Recording consultations without written consent from both parties is not permitted.
  • Communication: For your privacy and in line with ethical guidelines and the NBHWC Code of Ethics, your coach will keep your information confidential unless required by law. To ensure this, you’ll communicate with your coach through the secure and friendly HIPAA-compliant Get Healthie portal and/or app.
